DISASTER MANAGEMENT RESEARCH

GOAL:
There is a need to conduct a systematic study of the disasters that have occurred in India in the last 20 years. A number of agencies have conducted studies after the disasters have occurred. However, no agency has chronicled details of the role played by NGO’s in relief and rehabilitation. Further, there has been no documentation on the impact of disasters on social, economic, developmental, psychological and educational aspects on affected people.

BJS is contemplating to start research activity on all aspects of disasters had set up a core research team for this purpose. It focus on gathering and analyzing data and producing a comprehensive understanding of the implications of a disaster from all perspectives to create a comparative statement of the successes and failures of various agencies governmental and non-governmental that were involved in relief and rehabilitation after the disaster.

The purpose of this exercise is to document the success stories as well as tested and tried strategies of implementation of different agencies after every disaster. This document may be available to those who wish to use it as a reference tool for coping with disasters in future.
