Scale Of Disaster: Death Tolls Around 10,000: Approximately 14,000 Injured.
The Event:
Tragedy descended on Osmanabad and Latur districts of Maharashtra on September 30, 1993.at 3:56 a.m as the earthquake shattered thousands of lives.The death toll was quite high, around 10,000 shown by official figures, as people were fast asleep in their homes and most were buried beneath the debris even before they had time to react. About 3 lak people became homeless and 5000 children in the age group 1-13 years became orphans or destitute. 25 villages reduced to rubble and 58 villages suffered severe damage.
