PAST PROJECTS
BJS stepped into the field of disaster management in the year 1992 when the country witnessed one the worst man made disasters in its history- the communal riots which broke out after the demolition of Babri Masjid. BJS organized a “ Shanti Yaatra” making an appeal for restoration of peace. Thereafter BJS had been in the forefront of rescue, relief and rehabilitation activities whenever disasters hit the country. During the past 22 years, BJS had the experience of providing relief and rehabilitation in 13 disasters across 7 states of the country.
After 1993 Latur earthquake, BJS established the Wagholi Education Rehabilitation Center for the education rehabilitation of disaster affected children. BJS adopted 50 orphan children from Jabalpur after the 1997 earthquake. 350 malnutrition-affected children from the poverty ridden Melghat tribal area in Maharashtra were also adopted by BJS for total rehabilitation. In 2001 in the wake of Gujarat Earthquake, along with immediate rescue and relief operations BJS reconstructed 368 schools within a span of 90 days, to restore the schooling facilities. BJS also constructed 11 permanent school buildings and 34 Health centers in Andaman & Nicobar Islands after the Tsunami. After the 2005 J & K Earthquake, BJS provided 870 prefabricated structures to J&K government FREE OF COST, for providing shelter to the earthquake affected people. BJS has been in the forefront of relief operations, whenever floods hit the state of Maharashtra. |
